Prince William and his wife Kate, the Princess of Wales, attended the Wimbledon men’s singles final on Sunday, July 12, joined by two of their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The family watched the match from the Royal Box, which also hosted a number of notable figures from entertainment and politics.

Kate, who serves as the patron of the All England Club, presented the trophy to the men’s singles champion, Jannik Sinner, following his victory over Alexander Zverev. She had also presented the trophy to the women’s winner, Linda Noskova, the previous day, Saturday, July 11, though she was not accompanied by family members on that occasion.

Royal Family’s Engagement with Tennis

The presence of Prince George, 12, and Princess Charlotte, 11, marked a family outing for the final. Their youngest sibling, Prince Louis, 8, was not in attendance. This was not the first time the royal children have watched Sinner compete; all four family members were present to see him defeat Carlos Alcaraz in last year’s final.

Following his win against Zverev, Sinner engaged in an extended conversation with the royal family in a private room within the tournament’s main stadium. During this interaction, Kate congratulated Sinner, remarking on his “fantastic achievement” and noting that it was “really inspiring to the children to see tennis at that level.”

Sinner, holding the golden trophy, inquired about the children’s own tennis playing habits. Prince George responded that they play on “weekends,” rather than “every day.” This exchange mirrored a similar conversation the tennis player had with the royals after the previous year’s final.

Reflecting on the experience, Sinner commented, “You can really see that they love the sport.” He added, “This is exactly how we feel as players on court when we see them watching tennis. Staying there for four hours under the sun with the heat, it’s really nice.” He also expressed appreciation for the spectators, stating, “Having the whole Royal Box there, as well, the whole people staying for a match like this for four-ish hours, it’s amazing. That’s also the reason why we love to play tennis.”

Distinguished Guests and Royal Appearances

The Royal Box on Sunday, July 12, featured a diverse group of attendees. Among the actors present were Dustin Hoffman, Nicole Kidman, Ben Stiller, Jennifer Lopez, Tom Hiddleston, and Andrew Garfield. Other notable figures included German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Italy’s sports minister Andrea Abodi.

Several former Wimbledon champions were also in attendance, including Stefan Edberg, Lleyton Hewitt, Richard Krajicek, Jan Kodes, and Stan Smith. Anna Wintour was also spotted in the crowd.

Kate, 44, wore a draped olive-green day dress with a small tan handbag, while Prince William, also 44, was dressed in a dark gray suit with a striped tie. Prince George wore a navy suit, and Princess Charlotte was seen in a bright blue dress with ruffled short sleeves and a back bow. Kate also wore a purple and green ribbon pinned to her bodice, signifying her role as patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

The royal family’s appearances at Wimbledon were part of a notable week for royal watchers. Queen Camilla attended the tennis championships on July 8 with her younger sister, Annabel Elliott. Additionally, Prince Harry, accompanied by his wife Duchess Meghan and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, reunited with King Charles on July 10, marking their first meeting in four years.
