Philadelphia Phillies players to feature prominently in National League All-Star lineup

Kyle Schwarber leading off for NL in All-Star Game

Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber has been named as the replacement for Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani in the National League All-Star starting lineup. Ohtani, who was the leading vote-getter in the National League during Phase 1 of fan voting, will not participate due to left knee discomfort and inflammation. Schwarber will now take Ohtani’s spot as the designated hitter and will bat leadoff for the NL All-Stars.

Schwarber will be joined by teammate Brandon Marsh, who was voted in by fans as a starter. Marsh is set to play right field and will bat seventh in the order. The 2026 MLB All-Star Game will be held at Citizens Bank Park, providing a home crowd for the Phillies players.

The National League manager, Dave Roberts of the Dodgers, has revealed the batting order for the game scheduled for July 14. Following Schwarber in the leadoff spot, Juan Soto of the New York Mets will play left field and bat second. Freddie Freeman, also from the Dodgers, will play first base and bat third, a position he often holds for Los Angeles.

The cleanup spot in the batting order belongs to CJ Abrams, the starting shortstop for the Washington Nationals. Another Dodgers player, third baseman Max Muncy, will bat fifth. Ozzie Albies of the Atlanta Braves is slated to play second base and bat sixth.

After Marsh, Andy Pages, a fourth Dodgers player selected by fans, will bat eighth and play center field. Rounding out the National League lineup is Drake Baldwin, the second Braves player, who will be catching. This lineup ensures a strong representation from several National League teams.

In addition to Schwarber and Marsh, another Phillies player, Cristopher Sanchez, will start on the mound for the NL All-Stars. Sanchez, a left-handed ace, has a 2.62 ERA in 20 first-half starts. His presence on the mound, along with Schwarber and Marsh in the starting lineup, is expected to generate a positive reaction from the hometown crowd.

Other Phillies players will also be part of the NL squad. First baseman Bryce Harper, starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo, and closer Jhoan Duran are all on the roster as reserves. These players will be available off the bench and out of the bullpen, further increasing the Phillies’ representation in the All-Star Game.

The American League All-Star starting lineup features Mike Trout of the Angels in center field, batting leadoff. Yordan Alvarez of the Astros will be the designated hitter, followed by Shea Langeliers of the Athletics catching. Junior Caminero of the Rays will play third base, and Bobby Witt of the Royals will be at shortstop.

Cody Bellinger of the Yankees is set to play right field, with teammate Ben Rice at first base. Riley Greene of the Tigers will play left field, and Ernie Clement of the Blue Jays will be at second base. The American League starting pitcher will be Dylan Cease.

The announcement of these lineups sets the stage for the highly anticipated All-Star Game, where fans will see a mix of established stars and breakout players from across both leagues. The game is scheduled for Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park.
