Davie, Florida: Geno Smith will not face charges in domestic incident

Investigation Closed in Florida Incident
The investigation into an incident involving New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith at his Davie, Florida, residence on June 21 has been declared inactive by the Davie Police Department. This decision means Smith will not face charges related to the confrontation. The case had been under review following a dispute between Smith and a woman at his home.
According to a police report, the case was made inactive due to several factors, including the inability to review surveillance footage, conflicting accounts from those involved, and a lack of independent witnesses. The report stated that no further investigative steps could reasonably be taken with the information currently available. However, the report also noted that any future investigative action would depend on additional information or evidence being brought forward.
Both Smith and the woman named in the complaint were under investigation for potential battery charges. Each individual was observed to have apparent minor injuries. Smith reportedly had two scratches on the right side of his face and a knot on the back of his head. The woman had a cut on the webbing of her right hand and a bruise on her left arm, which appeared to be from being grabbed.
Conflicting Accounts and Unprovided Statements
The investigating officer noted that the accounts of the incident provided by Smith and the woman “greatly deviated” from each other. Both were asked to provide sworn statements regarding what they alleged occurred. The woman indicated she would provide a statement and scheduled appointments on June 24 and July 9, but she did not appear for either. Smith’s legal representation informed police on July 9 that he would not be providing a statement at that time.
The situation initially came to light when a woman shared three videos on social media on June 21, showing her confronting Smith outside his home and in his garage. In one video, the woman claimed Smith “beat my ass.” The video also showed Smith telling the woman to “stay away from my family” while on the phone before he went back into his house. The woman was then seen running towards the street, holding her phone and calling for help, which prompted Smith to return to his driveway and tell her to “leave my neighborhood.” The altercation continued when the woman approached Smith after he entered a car in his driveway. The video concluded with a brief shot of Smith speaking to three police officers and a caption indicating that charges were being pressed.

Authorities did not take anyone into custody at the time of their response. The police department had initially indicated the investigation was closed, but later clarified it would remain open for further review by a detective. Now, the case is officially inactive, and Smith is not facing charges from this confrontation.
Other Recent Police Interactions
This incident marks one of several recent interactions Smith has had with the Davie Police Department. On July 6, Smith was stopped for allegedly driving 70 mph in a 45 mph zone near his mansion in Davie. Body camera footage showed an officer commenting on Smith’s 2025 silver Aston Martin before addressing his speed. Smith was asked for his license but stated he did not have it on him, explaining that it was at his nearby home and that the vehicle belonged to a friend.

The officer ultimately issued Smith two citations: one for unlawful speed and another for not carrying his license. This traffic stop was the third time in three months that Smith had been questioned by the Davie Police Department. Smith has not publicly commented on any of these interactions with police officers.
Smith, who was traded to the Jets this offseason from the Raiders, is expected to be the team’s starting quarterback in 2026. Last season with the Las Vegas Raiders, Smith completed 67.4% of his passes for 3,025 yards in 15 starts.
