Atlanta qualifying sees Ryan Blaney take pole, Joey Logano second
Team Penske drivers Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano secured the front row starting positions for Sunday night’s NASCAR Cup Series race at EchoPark Speedway in Hampton, Georgia. Blaney earned the pole position during qualifying on Saturday, with Logano, his teammate, starting alongside him in second.
Blaney achieved a lap time of 30.815 seconds, reaching a speed of 179.912 mph. Logano followed closely with a lap time of 30.851 seconds and a speed of 179.702 mph. This strong performance by the Team Penske Fords sets them up favorably for the Quaker State 400.
Blaney expressed satisfaction with the team’s qualifying results, noting the advantage of having two Team Penske cars starting at the front. He also mentioned the potential for collaboration with other Ford drivers during the race. The upcoming event marks the series’ return to Atlanta, following a previous race earlier in the year.
Blaney currently holds the third position in the overall Cup Series points standings. In contrast, the current points leader, Denny Hamlin, and second-place driver, Tyler Reddick, qualified significantly further back in 28th and 31st positions, respectively. Both Hamlin and Reddick drive 23XI Racing Toyotas.
Despite their lower qualifying positions, Blaney acknowledged that Toyota cars often do not qualify strongly at speedways but can perform well in the race, particularly in the draft. He referenced the spring race at EchoPark Speedway, where Toyotas demonstrated strong performance during the event itself.
Qualifying Results and Previous Atlanta Performance
Beyond the top two, Kyle Larson secured the third qualifying spot. He was followed by Austin Dillon in fourth and Daniel Suarez in fifth. Hendrick Motorsports teammates Alex Bowman and Chase Elliott qualified sixth and seventh, respectively. Elliott previously won the summer race at his home track near Atlanta last year.

While he finished 21st in the last Atlanta race, he has shown recent strong form, finishing second at Chicagoland and fifth at Sonoma in the weeks leading up to this event.
